Daytime Lock-In Coming Up

Daytime Lock-In Coming Up

by Sandy Jones on October 26, 2023

As you know, the Saint Dunstan’s Youth had a Garage Sale benefitting the Summer Trips of 2024 (Junior High will be going to Camp Eagle and Senior High will be going on a Youthworks Mission Trip to Bayou La Batre, AL). A huge thank you to all our Youth and Parent Volunteers who helped prepare for and staff the sale. Another huge thank you to all of you who generously donated items for our sale. We received everything from furniture, housewares, clothing, electronics, and even plants. You all were so generous and it was definitely appreciated. We will be planning more fundraising events for the Spring, so we will keep you posted.

It is hard to believe, but November is almost here. The Youth will be having a daytime lock-in on November 21 (Tuesday of Thanksgiving Break). If your family is around, I would love for your youth to join me. We will have a fun-filled day of games, karaoke, movies, and, of course, food. The event will be from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with drop off beginning at 7:00 AM. Please sign up here so we know how many people to expect https://forms.gle/pZ2xnXLCbrDehG4P9 If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to spend time with our wonderful youth that day, please feel free to contact me at .

I also want to make sure that everyone is aware of a wonderful service project being completed by the JDOK (Junior Daughters of the King). You may have seen the super cute collection box covered in drawings from popular children’s books in the middle of the BEC and wondered about its purpose. Well, the JDOK is collecting picture books for 3 year-olds that will be donated to Carrying Hope, a wonderful agency that fills backpacks with toys, pajamas, blankets, books, etc. for children entering the foster care system. Oftentimes these children enter with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. These backpacks are filled with new items that then belong to these children and they can take them with them wherever they go. We would love it if you would join us in supporting this wonderful cause by placing a picture book or two in our collection box. Here’s a video the girls made to explain a little about the project:

There are also a couple of events at Camp Allen for High School Students. Happening is a youth led retreat for High School Students and the next session is taking place Nov 3-5. For more information or to register, please click this link: https://www.epicenter.org/happening/

The Midwinter Retreat for current 10-12 graders is Jan 5-7 and costs $75 for the weekend. If your youth is interested in attending, you can get more information and register here: https://ep.campallen.org/EventProConnect/Registrations/Welcome.aspx

I found this prayer for youth on the website of The Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows - St. Anthony in Hamilton NJ: https://ols-sa.org/prayer-for-youth#:~:text=Amen.-,God%20and%20Father%2C,as%20they%20journey%20through%20life

God and Father,

we ask you to be with young people as they experience sorrow and joy.

Protect them from the dangers that are present in our world today.

Give them and their families the courage to follow you as they journey through life.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, may they experience your loving care and mercy.

We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord, Amen.
