C.S.Lewis

C.S.Lewis

by The Reverend Beth Anne Nelson on October 20, 2021

The evening was late, and I could see a faint light coming beneath the curtain dividing our 400 square apartment into rooms. I peeked over and saw my daughter, Grace, with head on her pillow and C.S. Lewis’ The Last Battle in one hand and her light in the other hand. Later, Grace and I discussed her thoughts on the book.

****Spoiler Alert****

Grace said she thought that C.S. Lewis explained the idea of heaven and hell well; who could be in which world helped her understand the way we related to God. We could choose God’s way or the world’s ways. Each character made this decision on their own.

I imagine many of you have your own C.S. Lewis story; a time when his works illuminated your faith. On Friday, October 22 at 7:00pm and Saturday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Dunstan’s we have an opportunity to engage C.S. Lewis’ works on our own terms. We have the chance to see Lewis brought to life in a one person show called God’s Megaphone.

This is the excellent thing about C.S. Lewis, he made sophisticated points simple and easy to understand. Lewis wrote more than thirty books and each of them had a faith component. It is not that he was always trying to make allusions and metaphors, rather that he was such a devout Christian he could not stay away from these topics.

There is an absolutely fascinating preview for this show on YouTube.1 Seeing this event in person will bring thoughtful questions and deepen your faith. You might ask what you should do with your children; I am bringing my entire family. Every person can understand at their own level. My husband, David, being ever thoughtful, will enjoy the different approach to Lewis’ works. Grace is looking forward to hearing Lewis brought to life. I am looking forward to spending this time with all of you.

Each of you knows someone like Lewis, who without saying it embodies and proclaims Christ’s salvific message with their lives. I hope you bring a friend and join us for this night of faith filled illumination. This is an excellent opportunity for formation and evangelism. I hope to see you there!

For His Sake,

Beth Anne
