The summer is a busy and fun time for the youth at Saint Dunstan’s. June 14-18, the Middle Schoolers went to Camp Eagle. The kids got to challenge themselves through outdoor activities such as rappelling, a ropes course, the superswing, and the Zip 3K. We opened each morning with worship and Bible study and closed every evening with outdoor worship. Saint Dunstan’s had six girls, two boys, and four adults who demonstrated a willingness to push themselves beyond their comfort zones through the activities and in their engagement with the Worship and Bible Studies. They were able to build community among themselves and to deepen their faith. It was a blast!
June 23-28, the High Schoolers went on a Mission Trip to Bayou La Batre, AL. They were also able to push themselves outside their comfort zone by serving alongside youth from a Methodist church from Kentucky. We served at the Boys and Girls Club, a local farm, a garden, thrift stores, the local senior center, etc. The kids were able to build relationships among themselves and with members of the community. They participated in daily Bible study and demonstrated the ability to support one another through difficult times and challenging service projects.
You may think that since our big summer trips are past, we are slowing down for the summer, but the Youth have several more events remaining. On July 2 we met at the church to craft. We will be having a booth at the SOS Market in October to help raise money for camp for summer 2025. You will have an opportunity to have your very own bracelet, prayer beads, hot pad, etc. hand crafted by the youth at Saint Dunstan’s. Ms. Angela Stengl has invited us to come swimming at her house on July 10 from 11 AM to 4 PM (for more information, please email ) and we have another crafting social on July 18 at the church. Our annual lock-in will be July 26 from 6:00 PM to July 27 at 9:00 AM. We would love to have any youth (grades 6-12) participate in all our upcoming events.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with the Youth at Saint Dunstan’s this past year. In July 2023, Father Roman and I talked about me serving as the Interim Coordinator of Youth Ministries at Saint Dunstan’s. Our beloved Sarah Quiroga was moving out of state, and the church had not had any luck finding a qualified candidate to replace her. I agreed to fill this position on a part-time basis for one year. As hard as it is to believe, the agreed upon year has passed. I am thrilled to announce that as of July 1, 2024, I am the permanent Coordinator of Youth Ministries.
