Greetings, St. Dunstan’s family! I’ve never written a blog before, so let’s see how this goes.
To the regular attendees of the 11 a.m. service, your patience was well worth it. After a 5-month process to replace our previous organist, we secured Dr. Sookin Park in late February as our new organist for Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal! She brings a wealth of experience to the position and has already fit in well with the Parish Choir.
She received her Bachelors and Masters in Piano Performance from Hanyang University in Seoul, moving to Oklahoma to then serve as the staff accompanist for OU’s Opera program for several years while receiving her doctorate. After moving to Houston, she found a home working in the Presbyterian church as an accompanist where she began training as an organist, all the while serving local colleges for lessons, competitions, and rehearsals for major universities. She currently serves as the staff accompanist at Houston Baptist University. When she heard about our opening for a new organist, she was already in contact with Saint Dunstan’s since before Christmas of 2022.
We are delighted to have her on board, where she’s already made a great distinction with her uplifting and energetic postludes. She has also stepped up to accompany the St. Cecilia Choir for their recent performance and has even delighted the congregants of the 11:00 a.m. with a stirring rendition of “Amazing Grace” on the piano on Thomas Sunday. If you get a chance, stay behind after the 11 a.m. service concludes to hear some great music and meet Dr. Sookin Park yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
Yours in Christ,
David Horn
